Euro 2020 postponed by twelve months

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has announced the postponement of EUFA EURO 2020, which was due to be played in June and July this year.

The decision was made by UEFA’s executive committee, following videoconference meetings held with the presidents and general secretaries of the 55 national associations, as well as representatives of the European Club Association, European Leagues, and FIFPro Europe.

“The health of all those involved in the game is the priority, as well as to avoid placing any unnecessary pressure on national public services involved in staging matches,” said the UEFA in a press release.

UEFA EURO 2020 was scheduled to take place in 12 cities across Europe from 12 June to 12 July 2020. The proposed new dates are from 11 June to 11 July 2021.

All other UEFA competitions, including UEFA Champions League, EUFA Women’s Champion’s League, EUFA Europa League, and others have also been put on hold until further notice.

The football tournament was seen as one of the highlight events for football spectators and betting companies for the year.
