China lottery booming, dropping in Beijing

China Lottery sales in China are booming but not quite so much in Beijing, according to official figures from China’s Ministry of Finance.

Chinese bet 31.5 billion yuan ($5.13B) on lotteries in August, 28.1 percent more than a year ago, but in Beijing sales for August were down 13 percent compared to August 2013. However they were still up for the year to date. Lottery sales in Beijing during the January-August period increased by 19 percent to 8.33 billion yuan ($1.36B) according to MOF’s figures.

The Ministry gave no reasons for the decline in Beijing.
