Russia busts more than 72,000 illegal gambling houses in five years

    Russian authorities have shut down more than 72,000 illegal gambling houses and 1,000 underground casinos in the five years since Moscow banned gambling, except for in designated zones, local media reports.
    Prosecutors jointly with other law enforcers have checked more than 108,000 facilities and have confiscated more than 980,000 units of gambling equipment.
    About 50 thousand chiefs of these gambling halls were brought to administrative responsibility and fined over $17.2 million altogether.
