Melco partners with the Yokohama F. Marinos football club

Melco Resorts & Entertainment has entered into its first sports partnership in Japan by becoming a sponsor for the Yokohama F. Marinos J1 League football club.

Melco Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho commented, “This partnership contract is not only a business sponsorship, but rather a broad business partnership to enliven the community through various activities at ground level.” He added, “We are not yet doing business in Japan, but as a first step we will become a become a member of the Japanese community through the Marinos.”

The Melco logo will now appear on the uniform of the Yokohama F. Marinos.

Melco’s unexpected move appears to have stolen thunder from Galaxy Entertainment, which sponsored an “EuroJapan Cup” this past weekend between the Manchester City Football Club and the Yokohama F. Marinos at Yokohama’s Nissan Stadium. Ho’s press conference in Yokohama took place on Friday, the day before the friendlies that Galaxy had sponsored.
