Sasebo’s campaign to build an IR at the Huis Ten Bosch theme park has been given a major boost by the Kyushu Governors’ Association, which has decided to offer proactive support and to dismiss the recent rival candidacy of Kitakyushu city.
The Kyushu Governors’ Association unites the top political leaders of the island of Kyushu, as well as neighboring Okinawa and Yamaguchi Prefectures. In addition to the declaration of support for Sasebo’s IR bid, they will also establish a project team consisting of senior political and industrial figures.
Yutaka Aso, chairman of the Kyushu Economic Federation and younger brother of Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Taro Aso, commented, “Nagasaki Prefecture and Sasebo city put their hands up first. As a business community we’ve decided that we should support them.”
