Konami’s Gaming & Systems division delivered revenue of JPY12.8 billion (US$113.1 million) for the six months ended September 30, 2018, which it said was boosted by the continued growth and opening of new casino facilities around the world.
The revenue increased around 1.2 percent compared to the prior year period. Segment profit amounted to JPY1.6 billion, a year-on-year increase of 28.4 percent.
“The gaming market is continuing to see growth with the worldwide development and opening of new casino facilities and integrated resorts (IR) which include casinos,” said the company in a result filing.
“Furthermore, measures to revitalize the industry were implemented mainly targeting young people, including the introduction of slot machines designed to reflect players’ skill levels, allowing them to increase their chances at winning, in addition, eSports tournament.”
Konami said it expanded its Concerto series in the North American, Asian and Oceanian markets. It also introduced Fortune Cup, a horseracing betting station with a model track, along with other game content.
In addition to its Gaming and Systems division, the company also has business units in digital entertainment, amusement, and sports.
In regards to group-wide performance, total revenue reached JPY122.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5.9 percent, while profit attributable to owners of the parent remained near flat at JPY17.2 million compared to the prior year period.
