Crowe signs Crown to replace Echo

Crown Ltd. will replace The Star casino as the uniform sponsor of the South Sydney Rabbitohs, a National Rugby League team co-owned by actor Russell Crowe, after Echo Entertainment Group Ltd., which owns The Star, decided not to renew its sponsorship. The three-year deal is reportedly worth about $1 million a year. The deal comes after the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority, New South Wales’s gaming regulator, ruled that Crown can increase its stake in Echo to 23 percent from 10 percent, shy of the 25 percent level Crown requested. The increased stake still needs approval by Queensland. Crown and Echo are fighting over casino operating rights for Sydney.
