More than 26 percent of all smoking infractions so far this year have happened inside of casinos, according to an announcement from the Health Bureau.
The smoking ban in casinos came into effect at the start of the year, which analysts believe hold a large portion of the blame when it comes to lower gross gaming revenue in the year.
From Jan 1 to May 31, a total of 2498 illegal smoking cases were recorded, with the Grand Lisboa Casino, Seaview Garden Leisure Zone, and China Plaza included in the list of places with the highest number of cases registered.
A total of 35 casinos have made requests for 597 smoking lounges to date. The Bureau said that 556 rooms have been authorized in 31 casinos so far.
