The Nagasaki Prefectural Government has expressed its intention to no longer pursue the integrated resort (IR) plan after being rejected by the Central Government in December last year.

Hong Kong-listed Okura Holdings has announced that its Pachinko Hall, K’s Plaza Ohato Hall, located in Nagasaki City, will cease operations with effect from January 14, 2024.

Japan's tourism ministry has shot down the plans for an integrated resort in Nagasaki, over financing concerns. The Casinos Austria-led project, under review by the government since April of 2022, was the only other IR projected after authorities gave approval for the MGM-Orix IR project in Osaka. The move means Osaka will likely be the only IR to operate in the country for the foreseeable future.

According to Japanese news site FNN, the Nagasaki integrated resort proposal is not expected to be certified by the government, effectively shutting down the possibility for a second casino complex within the country.

Wakayama will exit from the bid for an IR license in Japan after its prefectural assembly voted against its development plan, while Nagasaki won the backing of its local legislators.
