Authorities in Macau have relaxed border measures with China, now allowing those crossing the border into Guangdong province to display a nucleic acid test result issued within 48 hours.

This is an increase from the 12-hour period previously instituted after four cases of the Delta variant were discovered in Macau on August 3rd. The measure came into effect on Tuesday, the same day authorities said they were planning to relax the “immediate prevention” measures the city was placed under on August 3rd – a move requiring the approval by the SAR’s Chief Executive.

The removal of the measures came into effect at 10pm on Tuesday. The move comes after mass testing of the city’s population did not yield any new infections, despite the infected patients having circulated within the city for over a week before being discovered.
