Typhoon dampens August GGR, as expected

Macau gross gaming revenue in August fell in line with analyst estimates, reaching MOP 22.7 billion (US$2.8 billion).

The results represented a year-on-year increase of 20.4 percent, compared to MOP 18.8 billion reached in August 2016.

Earlier in the month, analysts predicted August GGR to grow around 24 percent year-on-year, but Typhoon Hato and Pakhar dampened optimism, bringing growth estimates down to 18 to 21 percent for the month.

Accumulated gross revenue year to date is MOP 172 billion, an increase of 19.1 percent year-on-year compared to the prior-year period.
