Tigre may suspend ops over tax collection law

Tigre de Cristal may suspend its operations in Russia over a new law which would require the operator to collect taxes from its clients, reported PrimaMedia, citing interim vice-governor of Primorye Territory Tatyana Kazantseva.

According to a new law signed by President Vladimir Putin last week, gambling organizers will be required to collect taxes on wins exceeding RUB 15,000 (US$253.8) from customers.

The new law is set to come into force in early 2018.

"Recently, our only casino turned to us, to the governor, saying that they may suspend their activities altogether... not because of the recent increase in gambling tax rates... They are alarmed by the unsettled issue of taxation on wins,” said Kazantseva.

“The fact is that they are not a tax agent for charging taxes, but recently they have been obliged to collect it. This is unrealistic and they are even ready to suspend their activities," she said.

In November, President Vladimir Putin signed a law stipulating a two-fold increase in gambling taxes. He also signed a law which requires organizers of gambling activities and lotteries to collect taxes from their clients' gambling wins.
