Myanmar finalizes foreigner-only gambling law

Myanmar has finalized a law that will legalize foreigner only casinos in three-star and higher hotels, according to reports.
"We have finalized the reformed gambling law and are ready to send it to the parliament for suggestion, discussion and then approval," DPA cited a Home Affairs Ministry official as saying.
He also added that some forms of illegal lotteries would be legalized and regulated, without giving further details.
"It’s better to get more revenue for country by legalising the illegal lotteries," the official said.
Burma has a creaking state lottery system and Lottery head Thein Naing has said he wants to introduce an online system.
Some estimates suggest that around 70 percent of Myanmar’s adult population engage in illegal gambling, from lotteries to football bets.
The possibility of legalizing gambling was contained in the tourism master plan published in 2013 to attract about 7 million tourists a year by 2020.
