Mobile courts to punish punters during cricket series

Bangladesh authorities have announced they will be keeping a close eye on illegal cricket gambling during the upcoming international series, local media reports.

According to officials, special courts will set up at cricket stadiums to try and convict punters who have been caught gambling during the tri-nation series - which starts January 15.

"Betting will be treated as a public nuisance. Anyone found involved will be convicted and punished instantly in the stadium," said Bangladesh Cricket Board chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury to AFP.

Last month, authorities removed almost 80 spectators during the Twenty20 tournament for placing bets on their mobile phones.
