Galaxy workers protest over bonus, dealer policy

Employees of Macau casino operator Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) gathered outside Galaxy Macau on Tuesday, disgruntled over a recent bonus offering from the company, local media reports.

The protests, organized by the New Macau Gaming Professionals Association, demanded the workers to be paid a full 14-months salary, rather than the bonus that was offered recently.

The workers claimed the upcoming September bonus was merely an advance on the annual discretionary bonus which was to be received in December.

The protesters also demanded a change to a policy which requires baccarat dealers to redistribute cards every minute even while there are no clients. Dealers complained that the policy was causing neck and shoulder problems.

Protesters also called for an end to the current rating system which is used to determine salary raises and bonuses, calling for a more transparent procedure.

President of the New Macau Gaming Professionals Association, Cloee Chao, said there were some 300 workers involved in the protest.
