Decision on offshore casinos ready by December

Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday approved a six-month extension to the off-shore casinos in the Mandovi river, local media reports.

Parrikar told reporters that he will deliver on his promise to shift them from the river, adding that the state will hold consultations with the casino industry and stakeholders to draft the policy.

"The meetings and consultations will start with stakeholders in mid-October. The state government will require time till December to take a decision on the policy," Parrikar said.

“By December, as promised, we should be able to come out with a policy,” he added.

There are currently five offshore casinos anchored in the Mandovi river.

According to a government source, the casino industry could be relocated to the premises of under-construction Mopa International Airport around 45 km from Panaji, where a special entertainment zone is being developed.
