As Genting Malaysia ramped up the rollout of new integrated resort facilities this year, authorities in the rest of the country were hard at work clamping down on illegal gambling.

The year started strongly for the Philippine gambling industry, but a series of setbacks have put the market on track for a lacklustre performance in 2017.

Macau’s government has been pushing hard to turn the gambling hub into a more family-oriented leisure destination, though in 2017 it was the VIP sector that staged a stellar recovery to lead gross gambling revenue growth throughout the year.
